Marvel Studios announced at San Diego Comic-Con that Gosling will star in a new Ghost Rider film, bringing the supernatural antihero to the MCU’s big-screen lineup. The movie will be directed by Shawn Levy and is set for a 2028 theatrical release.
The announcement gives one of Marvel’s most requested characters a fresh cinematic start. Ghost Rider is best known in the comics as a flame-skulled “Spirit of Vengeance,” often portrayed as a motorcycle rider who is bound to a supernatural force and punishes the wicked.
Marvel has not yet revealed the film’s story, supporting cast, or which version of Ghost Rider Gosling will portray. Johnny Blaze is the character most closely associated with the name, though Marvel Comics has also featured figures including Danny Ketch and Robbie Reyes under the Ghost Rider mantle.
Gosling’s casting signals a major addition to Marvel Studios’ post-Avengers slate. Levy, who previously directed Deadpool & Wolverine, will reunite with Marvel for the project.
The character has appeared on screen before, most notably in the Ghost Rider films starring Nicolas Cage. A new Marvel Studios production, however, would mark Ghost Rider’s first standalone feature within the MCU.
More details, including a release date and production timeline, are expected to be announced later.
